Department of Health / North Shore Mental Health Quarantine Hotel Support:

At the request of the Department of Health NSMH has provided professional oversight of the largest COVID 19 Quarantine Hotel for the State of Hawaii. The Pearl Hotel which houses 130 apartment type suites was utilized to assist the citizens of Hawaii when quarantine accommodations were unavailable to identified individuals. The NSMH staff who were inoculated from the virus provided 24/7 oversight, and in general mental health assistance from our well qualified licensed mental health staff.

North Shore Mental Health provides mental health assistance to the Department of Health quarantine hotel to protect and accommodate the citizens of Hawaii.

In 2022 North Shore Mental Health continues to provide COVID 19 quarantine living arrangements for the citizens of Oahu at the City and County of Honolulu Westloch location in Ewa.

Starting in February of 2024 North Shore Mental Health will provide medical and behavioral assistance in coordination with all Oahu medical hospitals. This program will be a stepdown for chronically homeless individuals to the Leahi Hospital from the Oahu Medical hospitals. This twenty bed North Shore Mental Health facility is provided by the Emergency Service Department – CORE program of the City and County of Honolulu.

Kama Tam, NSMH administrator and licensed mental health therapist, along with Anna Nikolaidis provide professional oversight to the Pearl quarantine hotel.

A few of the NSMH licensed mental health staff that provide assistance to the hundreds of citizens in Hawaii that have utilized the Pearl quarantine hotel for accommodations and safety.

U.S. Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii meets with Dr. Noza Yusufbekova, Dr. Brian Kehoe both staff licensed clinical psychologists of North Shore Mental Health, and their daughter Nahid, to discuss mental health services in Hawaii. Dr. Yusufbekova who is president elect for 2020 and president for 2021 of the Hawaii State Psychological Association and Dr. Kehoe were invited to the national ‘Practice Leadership Conference 2020’ in Washington D.C. representing Hawaii.

Lt. Governor Duke Aiona, Hawaii, receives recognition for his excellent support to North Shore Mental Health through the SAMHSA Access to Recovery Program at the annual 2010 Sheraton banquet.

Speaking at APA San Diego Convention-Dr. Brian Kehoe, Dr. Dan Kehoe, and Dr. Tam Dao. Following their presentation at the 2010 American Psychological Convention, Dr. Brian Kehoe presented his extensive work regarding the Minnesota Multi-phasic Personality Inventory-2RF and Polynesians in Hawaii. Their work was in collaboration with the Department of Health - Adult Mental Health Division.

Dr. Dan Kehoe meets with, and is trained, by United States of America military lead psychologists, Lt. Colonel Kindt, U.S. Air Force, Captain Johnston U.S. Navy-Marines, Colonel Betsy Porter Army Surgeon General Core, and Colonel Bowles U.S. Army. This training took place in Washington D.C. at the 2011 annual American Psychological Association Convention, and was conducted in part to aid North Shore Mental Health in their efforts to assist members of the Hawaii National Guard returing home from war.




Dr. Keane, National Director of the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Center for the United States of America located in Boston, MA, provided intense training for psychologists at the 2012 American Psychological Association Convention in Orlando, FL. The convention lasted four days in which Dr. Dan Kehoe of NMSH participated in the certification program with Dr. Keane. NSMH is facilitating 25 to 30 PTSD and Psychosocial Rehabilitation Groups weekly throughout Oahu, authorized by the Department of Human Services and private medical insurance providers.
 

Dr. Suzanne Bennett Johnson, 2012 American Psychological Association President, and faculty member of the Florida State University Medical School, met with Dr. Brian Kehoe, a 2010 graduate of Florida State University, and Dr. Dan Kehoe. This meeting was at the 2012 APA National Convention in Orlando, FL following the Karl F. Heiser Presidential Award Ceremony.
